Ms. Foundation Speaks Out on Draft SCOTUS Decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization

NEW YORK – Ms. Foundation for Women President and CEO Teresa C. Younger released the following statement in response to the leaked draft court case decision on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization:

“The Ms. Foundation for Women is devastated by the draft majority opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which was leaked to the press on May 2, 2022. While we do not know if the draft reflects the final decision of the Court, this opinion would dissolve the precedent set in Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey. Make no mistake, this decision would be an assault on reproductive justice and the bodily autonomy of women, transgender and nonbinary persons across the country.

“For almost 50 years, women have been able to choose if and when to parent. We believe this precedent reflects a fundamental human right and the consequences would be disastrous if it is not upheld. The policies of this country already do not provide paid family leave, universal healthcare including birth control access or childcare support.  A decision gutting abortion access deepens the gulf of inconsistency between the claim to value lives and the realities of our democracy.

“What is clear is that there is no greater time to follow the leadership of those on the ground. The Ms. Foundation’s commitment is to grassroots organizing because this fight will move to the state and local level. Progress is fragile, and we must continue to fight for abortion access and all reproductive freedoms.

“This is not just a women’s issue – our liberation is bound together. We will never get to full gender equality if we do not have full bodily autonomy.

The Ms. Foundation is proud to support those who are and have been at the forefront of organizing and mobilizing for reproductive justice and urge our supporters to show up for this fight. This is far from over.
