NEW YORK (August 11, 2020) – Ms. Foundation for Women President and CEO Teresa C. Younger released the following statement in response to Democratic Presidential Candidate, Joe Biden’s running mate pick, Kamala Harris:

“The Ms. Foundation for Women congratulates Kamala Harris on her partnership with Democratic presidential candidate, Joe Biden. Her track record as the only Black woman and first South Asian American woman in the U.S. Senate, California’s attorney general, and San Francisco’s district attorney are only the tip of the iceberg in her long list of trailblazing accomplishments as a public servant and leader.

“For over five decades, the Ms. Foundation has been advocating for women-led leadership in order to enact the social changes necessary to afford all women equal access to healthcare, community support, and upward mobility. Kamala Harris’s vice-presidential candidacy is a step in the right direction for women of color’s representation in government, and a historic choice at a time when we need to listen to Black women more than ever.

“Kamala Harris has advocated for families across the country, fought against racial injustices, supported marriage equality for the LGBTQ+ community, and more. The Ms. Foundation is ecstatic that a Black woman has finally been recognized on a major party ticket for the first time in U.S. history.

“But let’s be clear—the work does not end here. The Ms. Foundation for Women and our grantee-partners will continue to work tirelessly until every woman, of every background, is truly valued and treated as equal in our society. We remain dedicated to fighting the systemic inequalities that women face, and will hold all candidates accountable to the issues impacting women come November 3rd.”
