Ms. Foundation Issues Statement on the Passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

NEW YORK (September 18, 2020) – Ms. Foundation for Women President and CEO Teresa C. Younger released the following statement in response to the passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg:

“With heavy hearts, we at the Ms. Foundation for Women mou\r\n \the passing and celebrate the formidable legacy of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a champion for progressive issues on the Supreme Court for nearly three decades.

“A feminist icon, Justice Ginsburg continuously advocated equality for all – be it abortion rights, same-sex marriage, voting rights, immigration, healthcare, and more – and it is a fight that has now outlasted her lifetime. She was the conscience of the court and saw in the constitution the promise of a country yet to be reached by so many.

“We have still not realized the nation that Justice Ginsburg wanted to achieve, and her presence will be missed for generations to come. Her steadfast commitment and brilliance helped pave the way for all of us to do better and demand better.

“As we approach a critical election in just 46 days, with in-person voting beginning in ten states, we urge the Trump Administration and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell not to fill her seat until after the American people have spoken. To underscore, this precedent was set by Senator McConnell himself following the passing of Justice Antonin Scalia more than nine months prior to the 2016 election.

“Justice Ginsburg paved the way for many of us to carry the baton forward in the fight for equality, and the Ms. Foundation for Women and our grantee-partners are committed to continuing in her absence.”
