Ms. Foundation for Women on Supreme Court Confirmation of Ketanji Brown Jackson

NEW YORK – Ms. Foundation for Women President and CEO Teresa C. Younger released the following statement in response to the confirmation of Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court of the United States: 

“Today, the Ms. Foundation for Women is proud to celebrate the historic confirmation of Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court of the United States as she becomes the first Black woman to serve on the highest court in this country. We commend President Biden for fulfilling his promise to appoint a Black woman to the Supreme Court and each of the Senators who voted for her confirmation. 

“Brown Jackson’s confirmation process was not an easy one, and it serves as a testament to the fact that Black women have always had to work harder and meet higher standards than their counterparts. We admire Brown Jackson’s unwavering strength and humanity in the face of the cruel and unjust attacks she faced during her hearings, and we look forward to a future void of the sexism and racism that Brown Jackson experienced during this process.

“This monumental moment is long overdue. It is imperative that all branches of our country’s government reflect the diversity and lived experiences of all Americans, and with Brown Jackson’s confirmation we are one step closer to reaching that representation. As a Supreme Court Justice, Brown Jackson will provide an essential lens of racial and gender equity on critical matters, advancing justice and equity for all. 

“The Ms. Foundation trusts the leadership of women and we know that Brown Jackson represents one of innumerable Black women who make critical contributions to our democracy. While Brown Jackson may be the first, she will certainly not be the last. Her confirmation means that Black women and girls can finally have a voice on the court where their bodies, lives, and futures have been debated for centuries. We look forward to the future with Justice Brown Jackson on the bench.”
