Ms. Foundation President and CEO Speaks About VP Kamala Harris’s Historic Presidential Nomination
Ms. Foundation for Women President and CEO Teresa C. Younger released the following statement following the Democratic National Convention in response to Vice President Kamala Harris’s historic presidential nomination:
“Ms. Foundation for Women is thrilled to celebrate and bear witness to this historic milestone, as Vice President Kamala Harris, who was the first woman Vice President, becomes the first Black and first Asian-American woman to lead a major-party ticket as a nominee for President of the United States. She may be the first, but she won’t be the last.
“At the Ms. Foundation, we know that the world progresses because of the strength, leadership, vision and energy behind women-led movements, and the work by frontline activists and political leaders such as Fannie Lou Hamer, Shirley Chisholm, Patsy Mink, Hillary Clinton and more has brought us to this moment.
“Human rights and democracy go hand in hand, and both are at stake on the ballot this year. A feminist democracy is the path forward for systemic change, and that’s why we’ve been committed to investing, resourcing, and uplifting the vital work led by women, girls, and gender-expansive people across the country.
“We believe the personal is political, and meaningful change starts with each and every person. We urge everyone to exercise their right to cast a vote in the national election up-and-down the ballot, get engaged in their communities, and support feminist leaders year-round.
“Congratulations to VP Harris on this momentous, glass-ceiling breaking achievement for our nation and the world.”
