Ms. Foundation on the 2024 Election Outcome
NEW YORK (November 6, 2024) – Ms. Foundation for Women President and CEO Teresa C. Younger released the following statement in response to the 2024 election outcome:
“Today did not turn out as we had hoped. Ms. Foundation for Women is disappointed that Vice President Kamala Harris will not serve as the next President of the United States of America. For 248 years, this nation has not had a woman president and we again had the opportunity to elect the first woman to hold the highest office in the land, but instead must continue to wait to break that glass ceiling.
“We share our profound appreciation and gratitude to every organizer, volunteer, and community leader who knocked on doors, got out the vote, and poured their energy into modeling what democracy looks like. Your efforts have not been in vain. Seven out of 10 ballot measures protecting abortion rights passed. For the first time, two Black women will serve simultaneously in the Senate. Delaware made history in electing the first openly transgender woman to the U.S. House of Representatives. We will take a moment to heal, rest, practice self-care, and then we’ll get back to work.
“We’ve been here before, and know that together we can and will build a democracy for us, by us. Giving up is not an option. At the Ms. Foundation, we’ll continue to do the work – investing in and supporting women, girls, and gender-expansive leaders across the country, and we’ll never stop until we realize our vision of a true democracy in which the worth and dignity of every person are valued.”
