Ms. Foundation for Women on Supreme Court Nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson

NEW YORK – Ms. Foundation for Women President and CEO Teresa C. Younger released the following statement in response to President Biden’s nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court of the United States:

“Of the 114 Supreme Court Justices in U.S. history, all but six have been white men. The Ms. Foundation is proud to support and celebrate the nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court of the United States, and we commend President Biden for fulfilling his commitment and promise to appoint a Black woman to the highest court in this country.”

“Having a Black woman nominated to the Supreme Court is long overdue, as it’s essential that all branches of our country’s government reflect the diversity and lived experiences of all Americans, and we look forward to a future when it’s fully inclusive of people of color, women and girls, LGBTQ+, immigrants, people with disabilities, and more.

“Brown Jackson was selected out of the many highly talented and qualified jurists in this country and is an exceptional choice to serve on the Supreme Court for decades to come. Her experience serving on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia and the District of Columbia’s federal district court, as well as a public defender, ensures that she will be firmly committed to her duty of equal justice under the law.

“The Ms. Foundation trusts the leadership of women and we know that Brown Jackson represents innumerable Black women who make critical contributions to our democracy. While Brown Jackson may be the first, she will certainly not be the last. Her nomination means that Black women and girls can finally have a voice on the court where their bodies, lives, and futures have been debated for centuries. We hope to see Ketanji Brown Jackson confirmed, as we know that she will provide an essential lens of racial and gender equity on all matters.”
