Around the would-be 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, here’s what partners are saying
by the Ms. Foundation
This month would have marked Roe v. Wade’s 50th anniversary. Movement leaders and grassroots activists are working overtime to reimagine and build a future where Roe is the floor, not the ceiling, for reproductive healthcare. Here’s what some of our grantee partners are saying: Restoring Roe isn’t enough. It takes more than legality to ensure access to abortion care. We must be BOLD and create a world where abortion care is there for everyone who needs it, without barriers based on who you are, where you are from, or how much you earn. #AbortionJustice pic.twitter.com/5c3d3ZawS9 Collective Power for Reproductive Justice Roe v. Wade in and of itself was really the floor to begin with and not the ceiling. And as that monumental decision has been eroded, leaving so many people without access, it’s an opportunity for us to reimagine the future. 2022 took us back. Will 2023 be the year that lawmakers finally start listening to Black women leading the fight for Reproductive Justice? We know what is best for our bodies, our families, and our communities; it’s long past time for legislators to listen. pic.twitter.com/n4fxhQIPGj As a queer, Latina, single mom, I know that we must continue to fight boldly for abortion justice so that we can access abortion and other reproductive health services without shame, stigma, criminalization, or political interference like the racist Hyde Amendment. “ On what would have been the 50th anniversary of #RoeVWade, we’re looking beyond Roe for our #AbortionJustice solutions. Abortion justice means everyone has access to the care they want and need and ensures our fundamental dignity, humanity, and freedom. pic.twitter.com/eUHRvTL5BI We mou\r\n \the loss of Roe but we understand that Roe was the floor and we are working towards a world where access to the full range of just, dignified, and exceptional reproductive health care is available to people who can become pregnant regardless of circumstance or zip code, and is provided by compassionate health care professionals who also advocate for reproductive health and justice in their communities.” The 50th anniversary of #RoeVWade comes over 6 months since the #SupremeCourt stripped us of the constitutional right to abortion. We deserve better. We must fight against legal frameworks that fall short of recognizing people's bodily autonomy & protecting accessible care. pic.twitter.com/KVpJVbHJ04 FACTS.👇🏾 Denying people their right to decide what is best for their bodies & families is an act of violence that undeniably has the most devastating impacts on Black and brown communities, people who are disabled, low-income individuals/families, & LGBTQ+ folks. https://t.co/0MqNnJb3Db California Latinas for Reproductive Justice Image Credit: Bob Korn / shutterstock
