Gabrielle Union and Wade Davis to Host Special Screening of “A Wrinkle in Time”
for New York City Students
Opening Weekend Event Organized in Partnership with the Ms. Foundation for Women,
Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls, and HP
NEW YORK (March 9, 2018) — Today, actress, author and activist Gabrielle Union and writer, public speaker and former NFL player Wade Davis announced that they will fund a screening of A Wrinkle in Time for 600 New York City students, giving young girls an opportunity to see the diverse, women-led film for free. The screening will be held on Sunday, March 11 in Manhattan and is organized in partnership with the Ms. Foundation for Women, Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls, and HP.
Students and youth organizations from across the city have been invited to attend the event, which will also include a post-screening discussion featuring Wade Davis; Angélique Roché, VP External Affairs for the Ms. Foundation; Lillian Rivera, Director of Advocacy for the Hetrick-Martin Institute; Katherine Hand, Global Head of Strategic Communications – Sustainability and Social Innovation for HP; along with two young girls in attendance.
Wade Davis said: “I understand the power and impact of images and Ava DuVernay has given us an opportunity to ensure that all young people, especially girls of color, continue to dream bigger, brighter and more vividly thanks to this new movie, and I want to do my part to support the movie, Ava and young girls everywhere.”
Gabrielle Union said: “Right now is an important time to celebrate equality, to celebrate women and our excellence, and A Wrinkle In Time is exactly what our young leaders need to see. My wish is that girls leave the theater feeling like they saw themselves represented on the screen with this amazing cast of diverse women and that they dream a little bigger. I hope this encourages more people to be a part of the movement to bring this film to children everywhere.”

The planned event follows other celebrity-led activations to get students in theaters to see the film at no cost. Questlove’s #WRINKLEchallenge calls on other artists and activists to donate to local charities and schools organizing A Wrinkle in Time screenings across the country. After planning their event, both Gabrielle Union and Wade Davis connected with Questlove and are happy their initiative ensures young people will see this powerful movie.
