Ms. Foundation for Women on Donald Trump’s Racist Attacks
Against Freshman Congresswomen
Ms. Foundation for Women, one of the first and largest women’s funds in the United States,
issues the following statement:
NEW YORK (July 16, 2019) – Ms. Foundation for Women President and CEO Teresa C. Younger released the following statement in response to racist remarks issued by Donald Trump:
“After a campaign that informally began by questioning the citizenship of President Obama, it is no surprise that Donald Trump has directed racist, divisive hate towards Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, and Rashida Tlaib, four freshman congresswomen of color.
“With a presidency that relies on fear, Trump cannot accept the reality of a United States that elects women of color to lead or welcomes immigrants into its borders. These strong, outspoken, and unapologetic women of color are a threat to the white supremacist policies his administration promotes, and the xenophobic rhetoric he spews on a daily basis.
“The Ms. Foundation for Women and its grantee-partners categorically reject the Trump Administration’s attempts to denigrate communities of color and immigrants in this country. We will work tirelessly to ensure the voices of women of color who advocate for the values that truly make America great, ring loudly, clearly, and persistently into the future.”
