#OurVoicesOurTime Storytelling with YPAC on March 28, 2018

The Ms. Foundation for Women’s Young Professionals Advisory Committee (YPAC) represents the next generation of feminist professionals in the United States. Our membership is composed of over 150 emerging leaders from across the financial, political, editorial, legal, fashion, entertainment, non-profit and philanthropic industries.

YPAC membership is open to all people passionate about pushing the mission of gender equity forward. The YPAC is led by four co-chairs who volunteer additional time each month to organize and oversee meetings. Additionally, there are sub-committees formed throughout the year to support additional event planning and advocacy efforts.

The YPAC meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month at the Ms. Foundation offices in Brooklyn, NY.

Gloria Steinem has said “Pressing ‘send’ is not organizing…something happens in a room that can’t happen on a page,” and this is the driving facet behind the YPAC’s monthly meetings.

YPAC meetings typically include Ms. Foundation policy and grantee updates, briefings from staff members, guest speakers, professional development opportunities, interactive brainstorming, and activity planning. Meetings are held from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. Due to building security, everyone must RSVP to attend.

“I joined because I wanted to have a say in the causes that affect me and the women and girls that I love. Being involved with the Ms. Foundation arms me with the confidence, language, and experience I need to intervene on behalf of gender equality in both everyday and large-scale ways. And the YPAC gives me the opportunity to network with other like-minded feminists and develop professional skills.”

– Grace Paras, YPAC Chair

The YPAC plans its own events: some are free programmatic panels open to the public and used to educate those on the issues of gender equality that the Foundation fights for every day. Others are small networking or fundraising events, designed to broaden the base of Young Professional supporters and engage more people in the Foundation’s work. Most prominently, YPAC works together to host the annual Gloria Awards After Party.
