Alicia Lara is the Senior Vice President of Global Impact for United Way Worldwide. Previously, she was the Vice President for Community Investment at the United Way of Greater Los Angeles where she was responsible for the development and management of policy, research and grant making programs. The organization is focused on ending homelessness, increasing the high school graduation rate, and increasing the financial stability of low-income families.
Lara was formerly with The California Endowment, a health related philanthropic organization with a grant making budget of $150M annually. For eight years she held a number of positions there including vice president of program; director of responsive grant making; and senior program officer.
Ms. Lara has spent over twenty years in the nonprofit community working on women’s health, HIV/AIDS services and prevention, homelessness and health care policy. In addition to serving on the Board of Directors for the Ms. Foundation, she also serves on the Board of Directors for the Los Angeles United Methodist Urban Foundation as well as the public policy committee for Southern California Grantmakers. Ms. Lara was recently appointed by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to the Commission on Community and Family Services.
