Ms. Foundation Speaks Out Against Six Week Abortion Ban Bill Hearing
NEW YORK (October 31, 2017) – Ms. Foundation for Women President and CEO Teresa C. Younger released the following statement in response to the Six Week Abortion Ban Bill Hearing scheduled for Wednesday, November 1:
“Let’s speak plainly — these latest abortion bills are thinly veiled attempts by lawmakers to police women’s bodies and prevent them from deciding if and when to parent. The House bill under debate would not only ban abortions as early as six weeks into pregnancy, when many women often do not yet know they are pregnant, but would go even further by forcing sexual assault survivors to parent children conceived against their will.
“Instead of proposing reprehensible limits to women’s bodily autonomy, legislators should focus their attention on increasing women’s access to quality, affordable health care services.
“The Ms. Foundation for Women and our grantee-partners refuse to go back to the days before Roe v. Wade. We will fight against this unconstitutional bill, and any other legislation, that limits women’s access to reproductive justice and their abortion rights.”
