Ms. Foundation Speaks Out in Support of Rep. Pelosi’s House Filibuster
NEW YORK (February 7, 2018) – Ms. Foundation for Women President and CEO Teresa C. Younger released the following statement in support of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s marathon speech and filibuster in support of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients:
“Today we applaud Rep. Nancy Pelosi for standing up for the more than 800,000 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients whose futures are being held hostage by Donald Trump and the Republican Party. The decision to end DACA protections with no legal replacement is nonsensical and unnecessary. The Republican Party’s failure to present an honest, clean bill for Dreamers on a reasonable timeline is heartless and cruel.
“Make no mistake – Trump and his anti-immigration cronies seek to change the very fabric of American society. They intend to pit workers against immigrants, and the Dreamers living in the U.S. against those who dream of building their futures on our shores. Their actions are rooted in the same bigotry driving the president’s call for a border wall and an end to family reunification immigration policies.
“These are false, divisive, and xenophobic narratives that have no place in our nation of immigrants. The Ms. Foundation for Women and our grantee-partners will continue to work until there is a realistic, long-term solution for Dreamers and until everyone is given full respect, regardless of their country of origin.”
