Ms. Foundation Speaks Out Against Iowa’s Six Week Abortion Ban
NEW YORK (May 4, 2018) – Ms. Foundation for Women President and CEO Teresa C. Younger released the following statement in response to Iowa’s Governor Kim Reynolds’ signing of a six-week abortion ban into legislation:
“The abortion bill signed into law in Iowa is an unconstitutional atrocity. As the nation’s most restrictive abortion ban, it is the latest attempt by lawmakers to unilaterally police women’s bodies and remove their right to decide whether or not to parent.
“Iowa Republicans are steadfast in their desire to overturn Roe v. Wade and restrict women’s bodily autonomy — we all know what their end goal is here. Reproductive justice is at the heart of the women’s movement. Control over our own bodies and the right to choose is central to achieving economic justice, criminal justice, and women’s abilities to choose their own path in this world.
“The Ms. Foundation for Women and our grantee-partners will fight back against this, and any other legislation, that limits women’s access to reproductive justice and their abortion rights.”
