Ms. Foundation Celebrates International Pronouns Day
NEW YORK (October 17, 2018) – Ms. Foundation for Women President and CEO Teresa C. Younger released the following statement in honor of the inaugural International Pronouns Day:
“The Ms. Foundation for Women and its grantee-partners are excited to celebrate the first International Pronouns Day, where people from all over the country, and all over the world, can take a moment to better understand the interconnectedness of gender across every issue that impacts women and girls of color.
“In a world threatened by racist, homophobic, and xenophobic forces, there are few things more important than the constant fight to restore and maintain the dignity of the most vulnerable of us.
“To respect and acknowledge the pronoun choices of trans and gender non-conforming identified folks is a small but mighty step towards advocating for a world where trans and non-binary people are seen for who they are rather than who they are told to be. If true feminism is about creating a just and safe world where power and possibility remain unlimited by race, class, or gender, then our feminism must embody a critical understanding of trans communities and identities.
“The Ms. Foundation for Women and its grantee-partners celebrate having a day where people from all over the country, and all over the world, can take a moment to better understand how gender intersects with our feminism. By advocating for those who are most impacted by prejudice and bigotry in society and politics, we are creating a better and more equal world for all. We will continue to fight until transgender and nonbinary people are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.”
