“We celebrate all feminists every day, but today we’re acknowledging celebrities who help promote equality for all genders,” said Ms. Foundation for Women President and CEO Teresa C. Younger.
“The Ms. Foundation celebrates feminists all year long – people who believe in social, economic and political equality, working every day to change the conversation and build a more equal society for ALL genders,” said Ms. Foundation for Women President and CEO Teresa C. Younger. “The survey acknowledges celebrities who not only publicly identify as feminists, but work to change conversation around diversity, inclusiveness and intersectionality.”
Last year, Emma Watson topped the list of celebrities in the first annual Feminist Celebrity of the Year survey. This year the Feminist Celebrity of the Year survey was done as part of the the Foundation’s #MyFeminismIs multimedia campaign. The aim of the campaign is to invite anyone who believes in the definition of Feminism as “the social, economic and political equality of ALL genders” to “tell us what your Feminism Is…” Through user-generated content, the Ms. Foundation is helping feminists paint the true face of Feminism in the United States.
“Celebrities who embrace Feminism or speak out for equality are using their voice to guide the larger conversation around equal rights,” Younger said. “We hope, that through our annual Feminist Celebrity of the Year survey, we are highlighting celebrities who believe in Feminism and expanding the conversation to even more people.”
