Ms. Foundation for Women Congratulates Co-Founder Gloria Steinem For Being Named Recipient of Presidential Medal of Freedom


NEW YORKAug. 9, 2013—Ms. Foundation for Women co-founder Gloria Steinem will be presented with the Presidential Medal of Freedom this year by President Barack Obama.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the nation's highest civilian honor. Steinem is being recognized for her activism in pursuit of women's equality and her role launching organizations dedicated to advancing civil rights.

Ms. Foundation founding mother Gloria Steinem earns her place on the list of esteemed honorees, such as Toni Morrison, Helen Keller and Caesar Chavez. This award is a testament to all the contributions that Steinem has made to the women's movement – and the betterment of society that equality enables.
